Now, use timesheets in Aha! Develop and Aha! Teamwork

by Claire George

Timesheets exist to answer an important question: How long did the work take? But when the timesheet is in one tool and the work is in another, answering that question becomes unnecessarily complicated. Hours are manually mapped to projects and rates, creating a fuzzy connection between effort and outcomes. The further the timesheet is from the actual work, the harder that connection is to make. It does not have to be that way.

You can now use timesheets in Aha! Develop and Aha! Teamwork to log effort, set billing rates, and track costs in one unified system.

Organizations track time for many reasons. Some need to measure effort against a pre-set project or initiative budget. Others bill clients — whether internal departments or external customers — for hours spent. And many technology companies track engineering time to claim R&D tax credits.

You have always been able to log effort in Aha! Develop and Aha! Teamwork as work progresses. What was missing was the cost layer (time codes and billing rates) to automate cost calculations. Timesheets make that possible.

Here is what you can do:

  • Configure timesheets: Define time codes to categorize work, and add billing rates by role to automatically calculate costs as the team logs time.

  • Track time efficiently: Assign time codes to initiatives, epics, features, and requirements so that effort is attributed to the right billing target.

  • Submit for approval: Review the timesheets each week and adjust the hours as needed before submitting.

  • Analyze costs: Build a list report to view overall costs by team, time code, or time period.

  • Export data for finance: Export reports for invoicing, R&D tax credits, or other financial reporting.

Now, you have an easier way to get the cost data you need to track spend against budgets, bill clients, or use the data to support additional business objectives.

Timesheets are now available in the Advanced plan for Aha! Develop and Aha! Teamwork. Use these delivery-focused tools with Aha! Roadmaps to connect team effort and costs with your high-level strategic plans.

Let's take a look at timesheets in action:

How to get started

  1. Account administrators: Enable timesheets and create time codes and rates by role in Account settings Timesheets.

  2. Team line owners: Select which time codes are available for the team line and assign team members to roles and managers in Team line settings Timesheets.

  3. Team owners: Further customize which time codes are available per team in Team settings Timesheets.

  4. Team members: Go to Work Timesheets to fill in and submit your weekly timesheet for manager approval.

Pro tip: Input planned changes to rates and roles in your Timesheet settings ahead of time. This ensures calculations stay up to date as compensation or responsibilities change.
