New Aha! Whiteboards + Azure DevOps integration

by Claire George

Your engineering teammates are crucial partners when building lovable software. The more you stay in lockstep as you explore new functionality and set priorities during PI and sprint planning sessions, the better. Today's update empowers you to do exactly that. Now, you can view work items from Azure DevOps (ADO) alongside Aha! records on a whiteboard for a complete view of your work.

Add work items in ADO directly to your whiteboard. This helps you organize your thoughts and align on what needs to get done and when with engineering.

To start using the new integration, check that Third-party application access via OAuth is enabled in your ADO account. (You can find this in the Policies section within your Organization settings.) Then, copy the link to an ADO work item and paste it onto your whiteboard. It will appear as a card and display important details such as the ID, work item type, title, and state.

If you already use our bi-directional integration between Aha! Roadmaps and ADO, consider using the new one in parallel. This gives you the ability to interact with records that only exist in ADO on a whiteboard as you refine plans. (Think of the other integration as a way to send planned work to engineering and track progress during development.)

This new functionality is especially helpful when you need to see product and technical work in one view. Below, we created a kanban board to review what engineering is currently working on and what is up next. We add a few high-priority features to the backlog from Aha! Roadmaps for a new online marketplace. It looks like engineering also identified a technical debt item requiring urgent attention. So we quickly paste it onto our whiteboard from ADO and prioritize it so the team can address the item next.

Click the card to open the record in ADO whenever you need to edit details.

If your engineering team uses ADO, this integration will help you collaborate on plans and highlight existing work — with no retyping.

Our team is working hard to build additional ADO functionality in Aha! Whiteboards. Soon, you will also be able to add ADO items to a whiteboard in bulk, edit them directly from the whiteboard, and convert sticky notes and shapes into ADO records.

So what are you are you waiting for? Try out the new integration as part of Aha! Whiteboards Advanced today. If you already use our essential whiteboarding capabilities in your Aha! Roadmaps, Aha! Ideas, or Aha! Knowledge account, let us know if you want to upgrade.
