Connect Aha! software with your AI-powered coding tools

by Claire George

The percentage of code written by AI is growing fast. As large language models (LLMs) become more capable, developers are increasingly using AI-powered coding tools to accelerate routine tasks. And to work as efficiently as possible, these tools need easy access to your product development data — including feature definitions, requirements, and technical documentation.

Now, you can connect your AI-powered coding tools directly to Aha! software using our new Model Context Protocol (MCP) server.

The MCP server provides a secure way to connect Aha! software to your LLM tools. It handles authentication, formats requests, and parses responses, making it easier to bring product context directly into your development environment.

To get started, instruct your coding tool to install the new MCP server from our GitHub repository and authenticate with your API key. Once connected, it can retrieve information about work items like features and requirements, technical documentation, and more — all in a structured format the LLM can use.

Here is an example of a development environment with the MCP server installed. We can use natural language to reference a specific feature in Aha! Develop along with a set of technical documents from our internal knowledge base.

Give the tool more context by instructing it to explore requirements and other related records.

Our model now has the context it needs to suggest a development plan. From here, we can iterate on the plan or move forward with our tasks. Either way, the assistant continues referencing the Aha! feature as it works, ensuring the output stays aligned with our product requirements.

Maximize your AI-powered coding tools by giving them the context they need to give more accurate responses.

By linking product data to your AI-powered tools, the team can work more efficiently. Tapping into your existing product data reduces context switching, speeds up delivery, and helps your AI tools make smarter coding decisions.
