My Name Is Suzanne Raga — This Is Why I Joined Aha!
I love the challenge of a blank canvas. As a child, I spent hours drawing and painting. Later I learned to play guitar and drums, then started an indie music blog in my teens. I enjoyed writing and sharing concert reviews. The best part was interviewing musicians — delving into the discographies of my favorite songwriters, uncovering thematic connections, and asking them to share the origin stories behind their songs.
I have always been fascinated by the intersection of creativity and innovation.
I attended college at Princeton and majored in the history of technology. I also earned a certificate in the language and culture of ancient Rome. For my senior thesis, I chose to write about the evolution of book publishing from colonial America to the digital revolution. I became so curious about ebook production that I wrote and self-published my own while I was still in school.
After graduating, I joined a marketing and branding company in New York City. I researched and wrote articles about social media trends for an educational video series. As my role grew to editor, then content strategist, I published online content about the wearable tech industry and helped develop a media communications tool for C-suite executives.
I was ready to move back to my hometown of Los Angeles after a few years. And I was ready for a new challenge too. I began contributing to Mental Floss, an online magazine and media company. I wrote hundreds of articles about everything from life hacks to business and personal finance. My favorite pieces involved fun twists — such as “13 anger management tips from ancient philosophers” and “10 travel tips from the age of Napoleon.” I relished finding obscure (yet intriguing) historical figures and sharing their story with an audience of millions.
But I wanted to grow my knowledge of business. So I joined a content marketing startup that served CEOs, executives, and serial entrepreneurs. Because my clients belonged to various industries, I immersed myself in a vast array of topics — blockchain, cryptocurrency design, restaurant franchising, and digital marketing to name a few.
It was thrilling to learn more about how these business leaders turned their ideas into action.
I soon found that startup life can be unpredictable. So I began searching for full-time writing positions with more established companies. I discovered the senior writer role at Aha! on an online job board. It sounded like an ideal fit for my background in technology and business content. And the company culture was particularly appealing — I wanted to work at an organization that valued integrity, excellence, and learning.
Since joining the marketing team, I have helped develop content for the Aha! blog and our product management and marketing guides. It is refreshing to work with teammates who are sharp, thoughtful, and organized. Everyone is committed to producing exceptional work — this motivates me to constantly grow my knowledge and learn new skills.
Working at Aha! perfectly combines my passions for research, technology, and business.
I enjoy capturing complex ideas and expressing core concepts through clear and compelling writing. And I have the privilege of seeing how customers use our software to transform their own blank canvases — whether that is building a new product or delivering a new experience.
That is why I joined Aha! — and why you should too.
