Create architecture diagrams in Aha! Whiteboards

by Claire George

Aha! Whiteboards is great if you want to brainstorm concepts, define user flows, and collaborate on your roadmap. And whiteboards also provide a great way to design and document complex technology systems. You can show how the components of a system interact with one another to create a shared understanding of how the system works and keep everyone aligned. Today's update allows you to do just that.

Quickly create architectural diagrams on whiteboards in Aha! software. Choose from more than 1,700 symbols representing Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud components.

Use the new symbols to visually represent your software system, network, or data center on a whiteboard. (Note that you need to be on the Aha! Whiteboards Advanced plan — either with a standalone account or in addition to Aha! Roadmaps, Aha! Ideas, or Aha! Knowledge.)

To get started, open up the Shapes menu and click the Icons tab. Search for the one you want by name or scroll to browse by type. Icons are now grouped into four categories: Basic, AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. Expand each category to see its full icon library. You will notice that architectural icons are further organized into subcategories (such as database, networking, and integrations). Better still, pin the icon menu to your whiteboard for quick reference while you build your diagram.

Below, we are diagramming the system architecture for Fredwin Cycling, a fictitious fitness application. We used AWS shapes to represent key components and added connectors and labels to explain how they interact with one another. We then shared the whiteboard with our technical experts for feedback. Once our diagram is finalized, the team can easily reference it when making architectural decisions.
