Bring personas to life with the actual voice of the customer

by Claire George

You build products for real people. (At least, you do if your product is successful.) So, the personas you create to inspire the team should reflect what actual customers think, feel, and need — they are not just broad assumptions or static profiles. Now, there is a simple way to ground each persona in reality by linking interview highlights from Aha! Discovery directly to personas in Aha! Roadmaps.

Show who you are building for by connecting real conversations to every persona.

You already use Aha! Discovery to capture rich customer insights by centralizing interviews, tagging key moments, and generating summary reports. That feedback helps you prioritize work in Aha! Roadmaps. Now, it can strengthen your personas as well, giving each profile a direct link back to the conversations that revealed the need.

Start by selecting a transcript snippet, interview highlight, or insights report in Aha! Discovery. Then, use the Aha! record link icon and choose a persona to link it with. Over in Aha! Roadmaps, you can view the linked insights on the new Related tab within the persona's details view. This creates a direct tie between tangible customer input and the profiles that guide your product strategy.

This functionality is available when you use Aha! Discovery together with Aha! Roadmaps. Along with this update, we also shipped your idea to link other Aha! Roadmaps records (like initiatives and features) to the Related tab on personas and competitors. It is another way to keep valuable context in one place.

Let's take a look at an example:

Here, we use Aha! Discovery to review an interview with a professional cyclist who uses Fredwin Cycling, our fictitious fitness app. Several candid quotes reveal key challenges and goals. By linking these highlights to our "Paul the Pro Racer" persona, we make sure everyone understands what he cares about and why he needs the product.

You can also link study or interview insights reports directly to a persona.

Share authentic user profiles

Now let's shift gears (pun intended!) to the persona view in Aha! Roadmaps. Under the Related tab here, we can see all the customer insights linked to "Paul the Pro Racer." Hover over each highlight to read the full quote. Aha! Roadmaps users with an Aha! Discovery seat can click into the linked interview to see the full transcript. This way, everyone from product managers to marketers can build greater customer empathy based on real evidence — not just a high-level summary.

Use the AI assistant in Aha! to help craft the persona itself, then enrich it with connected customer insights.

Keep real customer voices at the center of your product development process — so everyone knows who you are building for.

When you connect interview insights to your personas and plans, the entire team gains a clearer view of what customers actually need. UX can draw on real examples to make better design decisions. Marketing can build campaigns that speak directly to customer priorities. It all adds up to work that fits — and serves the people who rely on your product.
